How to Get a Missouri Medical Marijuana Card [2023]

If you live in Missouri and are living with a qualifying medical condition, you could be eligible for the Missouri Medical Marijuana Program (MMMP). By securing your Missouri medical marijuana card, you can legally purchase and use cannabis to ease symptoms that are associated with certain qualifying medical conditions.

Step 1: What are the Qualifying Conditions for Medical Cannabis in Missouri?

The first step to obtaining your medical cannabis card in Missouri is to find out whether you have one of the qualifying conditions for medical cannabis in Missouri. You may qualify for medical cannabis treatment if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Cancer

  • Epilepsy

  • Glaucoma

  • Intractable migraines unresponsive to other treatment

  • A chronic medical condition that causes severe, persistent pain or persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those associated with multiple sclerosis, seizures, Parkinson’s disease, and Tourette’s syndrome

  • Debilitating psychiatric disorders, including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Human immunodeficiency virus or acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS)

  • A chronic medical condition that is normally treated with a prescription medication that could lead to physical or psychological dependence, when a physician determines that medical use of marijuana could be effective in treating that condition and would serve as a safer alternative to the prescription medication

  • A terminal illness

  • In the professional judgment of a physician, any other chronic, debilitating, or other medical condition, including, but not limited to, hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, Huntington’s disease, autism, neuropathies, sickle cell anemia, agitation of Alzheimer’s disease, cachexia, and wasting syndrome.

If you’re not sure whether the condition you suffer from qualifies, consult your healthcare provider.

Step 2: Missouri medical cannabis card requirements

If you suffer from one or more of the qualifying conditions, the next step is to get a recommendation from your healthcare provider (MD, DO, or NP) for treatment with medical cannabis. Your healthcare provider will need to fill out a certification form, confirming you have a qualifying medical condition, and that medical cannabis may help alleviate your symptoms.

Other Missouri medical cannabis card requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older OR a minor with a parent or guardian as a caregiver.

  • A legal resident of the state of Missouri with proof of residency.

Step 3: How to Apply for a Medical Cannabis Card in Missouri

Once you have your healthcare provider’s certification forms, you can apply for a medical cannabis card online through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. You’ll need to provide the following documentation:

  • A copy of your government-issued ID

  • Proof of Missouri residency (such as a utility bill or lease agreement)

  • Signed Physician Certification Form

  • A clear, color photo of yourself taken within the last three months

  • Payment for the cost of a medical cannabis card in Missouri ($25)

After submitting your application, you’ll need to wait for it to be reviewed and processed. If approved, you’ll be notified by email within 48 hours. You can expect to receive your medical cannabis card in the mail within 30 days.

Step 4: Visit Your Local Medical Dispensary

Once you have been approved, you will be able to print a temporary medical marijuana card while you wait for your permanent card in the mail. You can visit your local Revolution dispensary to shop for medical cannabis products with your temporary card in the meantime.

Be sure to bring your card along with your state ID or Driver’s License with you on your visit. Once you arrive, our knowledgeable staff will assist you in selecting cannabis products that align with your lifestyle and medical needs.

In addition, registered patients have access to a more diverse menu of products and can purchase larger quantities of cannabis at one time – up to four ounces in a 30-day period. Finally, registered patients can use their Missouri Medical Marijuana Card in the following states:

  • Nevada

  • Arizona

  • Maine

  • Rhode Island

  • New Hampshire

  • Pennsylvania

  • District of Columbia.

  • Arkansas (Out-of-state Application for visiting patients)

Missouri Marijuana Law

It’s important to note that while medical cannabis is legal in Missouri, there are still legal limitations and restrictions on its use. For instance, you cannot legally consume cannabis in public places, and employers may still choose to drug test employees who use medical cannabis.

It is also against the law to consume cannabis and operate a motor vehicle. Always check the current laws and regulations for cannabis in Missouri to ensure that you understand your rights and responsibilities as a registered medical cannabis patient.
